Note: The ranked tests are often used with quantitative data when the samples are too small or the data too skew to justify the t-procedure/ANOVA.
Note: an asterisk* indicates the test can compute a confidence interval as well as hypothesis testing.
Note:if one measures a numerical variable for a single sample under two conditions (e.g. before and after) or two samples where individuals in the two samples are paired together based on similarities, it is a matched pairs study and you cannot use the two-sample mean procedure. Instead use the one-sample mean procedure on the differences of the values under the two conditions.
