Day 1 Course Setter Notes The 2004
Intercollegiate Championships |
Course Setter Notes OSBORNEDALE STATE PARK The Osbornedale Map was first used just over 8 years ago. It was re-field checked by Gari Williams last year with minor revisions by myself while designing the courses. Some notes to remember for today: - The walk from the parking/finish area to the start is 0.25km with minimal climb. Allow about 5 min to walk. Follow the streamers at the south end of the pond (near the finish). Be at the start early, there will be no changes in start times. Also, there will be no room for warm-up on the trail so please do your warm-ups in the field near the pond and away from the finish area. - Remember to drink enough BEFORE you start. There will NO water, as the courses are short distance. - All courses will be using WCOC controls. We use numbers for codes and they are placed inside the control flag. The numbers are only visible from the top. I have tried to avoid using similar codes on adjacent controls. - The area along the trail exiting the start is covered in briar. There are passable areas, so look carefully as at some point you will have to go through it. - The red and blue courses will loop over themselves. Be careful to follow the course in order. There might just be a manned control. - There is a quarry near a control on the green and blue courses. It is near the southern part of the map, just off the road. We have flagged the top of the cliff so that it is more visible. Please take the time to look at a copy of the map posted at the start and become familiar with the area. - All perimeter roads are off limits during the race. Unless you become injured and need to bail to the road, no one should be seen on the road. The courses generally provide route choice, but the road should not be one of them. - That’s it. Enjoy. Good luck to everyone, Joe Brautigam
