John and Lee's going away hash,
1/13/07
Hare: F'ing Joe
Author: R.i.c.k.
Having heard there is little or no mountain laurel in
John and Lee's new environs out Salt Lake City way, Joe made sure there was
no shortage of laurel on this hash. Also no shortage of slick steep rock
ascents and descents, swamps, river crossings, and the like. John was also
treated to a last, lingering lope through the Redding dump, no doubt
bringing back many fond memories of Saturday afternoons spent taking trash
to the transfer station.
The hash began somewhat inauspiciously with Evalin
taking a header off the deck stairs onto the sidewalk. But Joe checked for
broken bones and Pavlina declared Evalin would probably live, so off we
went. The pack headed toward Huntington fairly uneventfully, then got stuck
at the first real check just before the park. But eventually we found our
way, and proceeded to bushwhack through mud and muck and the occasional
river. From there the trail proceeded more or less as follows: (i) fight
through a few acres of mountain laurel, (ii) wet slick rock ascent, (iii)
more laurel, (iv) wet slick rock descent, (v) laurel, (vi) swamp, (vii)
laurel, (viii) river crossing. Then repeat above sequence 20 or 30 times.
All in all, a fine going away hash, topped off with
