Gregg Grovenburg, S J.

completed in June his nine-month tertianship in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He recently joined the Campus Ministry Office as an assistant chaplain, it was announced by the Rev. Paul Carrier, S.J., University Chaplain. Before joining Fairfield, Father Grovenburg spent time at the University of Ulster, Coleraine campus, with nine Jesuits from seven countries conducting daily life retreats and liturgies. In addition, his apostolic work included parish ministry, hospital Chaplaincy, Confirmation preparation and parish retreats.

Father Grovenburg entered the Society of Jesus in 1976 and was ordained in 1988. He received an A.B. in philosophy and English from Gonzaga University, a master of divinity in theology from Weston School of Theology, a diploma in past theology from Heythrop College in London where he wrote a final paper on "Adolescent Spirituality," and a master's degree in religious education and pastoral ministry from Boston College. He also took courses in systematic theology at Loyola University in Chicago.

He taught Caribbean literature and religion at St. John's College in Belize, Central America, from 1984 to 1985, and then returned to Belize seven years later as the in-country coordinator for 17 Jesuit International Volunteers and director of Trinidad Farm Jesuit Retreat Center, which also served as Catechetical Center for Belize Diocese. He taught English and theology at Rockhurst High School in Kansas City from 1982-84 and 1989-91.
