Dr.
Joel Goldfield, LARC founding director, Associate Professor, Dept. of
Modern Languages and Literatures (DMLL)
The Language Resource Center or “LARC” is located on the
second floor of Canisius Hall, overlooking Long Island Sound. The LARC supports some of the multimedia
language/culture needs of students, faculty, and staff, especially those
engaged in the study and teaching of modern languages and literatures. The multi-station facility uses fiber optic
technology to network Apple Macintosh computers equipped with DVD/CD-ROM
burners players. Wi-Fi is available to
link all types of personal computing devices.
A variety of films in DVD and videotape format and audio-visual devices
are also available. Outside of a few
hours per day when classes are held in the LARC, faculty and student assistants
are often available for tutoring and can assist visitors in using varied
resources to enrich the language learning or teaching experience.
The LARC is used both by reservation as a classroom extension
for orientations and special technology-assisted lessons
and as a library-style, walk-in facility (directly above).
