Obtaining Web Space on the Faculty Web Server
Obtain an Official University E-mail Account
As a first step, you need to have a
StagWeb or Microsoft Exchange e-mail account
for the following reasons:
- The procedures to obtain a University e-mail account ensure
that you are currently a member of the Fairfield University community
and thus entitled to space for a personal home page.
- The application process for your e-mail account requires
you to sign your name, indicating your agreement to the computer
guidelines for Fairfield University, and it provides you with
your own copy of these guidelines.
- Your web account username is generated to be identical to
your e-mail account.
Once you have an e-mail account, the procedure is quite simple:
- Send an e-mail to Computing & Network Services (cns@mail.fairfield.edu)
from your e-mail account giving your full name as well as your
e-mail user name. (Do not send your password.)
- You will receive a single folder on the faculty web server,
having your username as its name.
- Requesters will be notified via their e-mail account when
their user account and web folder have been created.
Within three business days of receipt of your e-mail, you
should receive an e-mail message from Computing & Network
Services with the following information:
- Your Faculty Web Server username, its temporary password,
and instructions on how to change the password;
- The name of your web folder and the full URL address at which
your site can be accessed;
- Information on FTP, the protocol that's used for moving your
finished web pages from your computer to the web server;
- Contact information for CNS staff members who provide instructional
support and can work with you to get your web pages correctly
coded and transferred to the server.
