WELCOME TO THE BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT AT FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY
We’re glad that you decided to visit our web page! Today, biology
stands as one of the dominant sciences, and will continue to be a significant
force well into the future. Whether your interests center on understanding
the molecular and genetic aspects of heart disease, or on the consequences
of extinction in tropical ecosystems, our Biology Department is well prepared
to give you an excellent education. The information contained in the links
listed below (and on the homepage) will give you an overview of what we
have to offer. If you have any questions about the department or university,
don’t hesitate to contact us at 203-254-4000 ext. 2541.
Here are some of the reasons
the Fairfield Biology Department stands out:
- Whether providing cutting edge instruction in our wireless classrooms,
or giving hands-on research experiences in our labs, our faculty will
always attempt to give you the best that Fairfield has to offer. Our
upper-level courses cover all portions of the biological spectrum. You
can take advanced courses in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Developmental
Biology, and Plant Biology. We also have a broad range of seminars on
diverse topics such as Bacterial Pathogenesis, Coral Reefs, and Ecological
Experimental Design. Virtually all of our upper-division courses have
a laboratory section that will introduce to the tools of modern biological
sciences. In addition to classroom experiences, our majors have access
to internships, both on- and off-campus. You can conduct bird surveys
at the local Audobon center or get introduced to the life of a medical
doctor at Boston Children’s Hospital. We help you reach your goals.
Visit the Courses page to learn more about
what we teach.
- The Biology Department is made-up of an active group of scholars committed
to undergraduate education. Our research is supported by a number of
external grants, and the faculty regularly publish in some of the most
respected national and international journals. Undergraduates become
vital members of the research teams, and students are often co-authors
on our publications. Visit the Faculty page
to learn more about who we are.
- Our majors enter some of the best graduate, medical, and law (yes,
law) schools in the United States. The facilities in the Bannow Science
Center are cutting edge, and undergraduates are trained in the use of
the most up-to-date techniques. Visit the Alumni
page to learn about our graduates.
Please let us know if you have
questions, and be sure to stop by our offices if you take a tour
of campus. Hope to see you in the near future!
